Everton deadline for attacker sale decision emerges - report

Everton accept they may have to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin before the transfer window closes on 30 August if he does not sign a new contract, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on Thursday (27 June, page 68) that, while the Toffees have offered the forward a new deal, they will consider cashing in this summer rather than lose him on a free transfer in the next.

Despite Calvert-Lewin’s move to Newcastle United falling through, it is understood that a deal could be revived later in the window [Luke Edwards, 24 June], with West Ham and Brentford also interested.

Will Everton cash in on Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer?

There are many factors at play when it comes to Calvert-Lewin’s future at Goodison Park, with his contract running out one of the biggest ahead of next summer.

Considering that the club are hoping to make around £40million from their star striker, as per Luke Edwards, it is unlikely that they would turn down that kind of offer should the 27-year-old decide that his future lies elsewhere.

He is also extremely injury-prone, which has been a constant theme on Merseyside, though he did hit a purple patch at the perfect time for Sean Dyche’s team, firing them away from relegation.

Everton’s PSR situation also suggests that at least one big-name player needs to be sold before the 30 June deadline in order to help balance the books, and the profit from Calvert-Lewin could be very helpful.

It would mean that the Toffees are much more likely to keep someone like Jarrad Branthwaite at the club this summer, and not succumb to the low-ball offers from Manchester United.

The former Sheffield United man scored seven Premier League goals last season and was a much more regular feature after a couple of injury-hit campaigns.

The Toffees already seem to be one step ahead, with Marseille’s Iliman Ndiaye completing a medical on Merseyside on Wednesday 26 June, according to Fabrizio Romano.
