Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack believes that Ianis Hagi leaving this window is the right decision as well as a bit of a shame.
The 25-year-old faced an uncertain future all summer but there was clarity given by Philippe Clement who confirmed he’ll be on his way out.
The Belgian stated that discussions took place with the attacker and his agent and a decision was made at the start of the summer.
Jack said on 5 August at 21:04: “I think it’s both the right decision and a bit of a shame. It just feels that his Rangers career has got away from him. Since that injury a couple of seasons ago, it was always going to be a long road back from that.”
Ianis Hagi and Rangers parting ways made a lot of sense
The decision for Hagi to leave Gers during this transfer window appears to be a prudent move for both the club and the player.
At 25, he faced an uncertain future at Ibrox, especially after a significant injury that required a long recovery period. His potential for growth and value as an asset has been affected by this setback.
Having played at Euro 2024, Gers can use his availability on the international stage as a way to recoup a decent transfer fee while his performance and potential are still recognised.
If Hagi were to stay and his performance was to decline further or not improve significantly, Rangers would likely receive a lower fee next summer.
Moreover, Hagi’s departure allows both him and the club to move forward.
For Hagi, it opens up new opportunities for career growth and a fresh start elsewhere.
For Gers, it frees up resources to invest in other players who can contribute more effectively and fit into Clement’s plans.
In other Rangers news, the club are locked in a transfer battle as they aim to bring an English striker to Ibrox on a free transfer.
