'Bite your hand off' - Pundit tells Rangers to accept £10m offer for star Clement wants to keep

Derek Ferguson has told Rangers that they should sanction Jack Butland’s exit if they receive a last-minute offer upwards of £10million.

The England international was linked with a move away from Ibrox early in the summer transfer window, but Philippe Clement has suggested the keeper is the only player not for sale in his current squad.

Andy Halliday had previously urged the Gers to consider a big-money offer to help fund their rebuild [Open Goal, 31 July] and Open Goal pundit Ferguson admits he would “bite your hand off” for that sort of fee.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (22 August, 43:05) he said: “See with Butland and all, was it Andy [Halliday] who spoke about it on one of your shows about £10million to £15million?

“I’d bite your hand off for that. I would honestly. They have no money. I think Kelly would come in and do alright, he’d do a job. Needs must, we need players in, in other positions.”

The Gers are not in a position to reject eight-figure offers for their players given the current financial situation at Ibrox, regardless of whether or not Clement wants to keep them in Glasgow.

Butland is undoubtedly an excellent keeper and his displays in his first season in Scotland kept the Light Blues in a title race for much of the season, but he is also a sellable asset.

Clement needs money through the door in the final week of the transfer window to make further additions to his squad and the England international is one of a handful of players who could command a big-money fee.

Whether or not any club will be willing to part ways with upwards of £10million at this stage of the summer remains to be seen. Should that sort of offer be made, however, the Rangers boss will have a big call to make.

This could well be one to watch into the final hours of transfer deadline day.
