Alan Pardew feels Everton deserved a result from the 3-2 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday (14 September).
The Blues surrendered a two-goal lead for the second consecutive match after storming to an unlikely lead at Villa Park courtesy of goals from Dwight McNeil and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Ollie Watkins levelled the match with goals either side of the restart, before a wonderful long-range strike from Jhon Duran settled the contest.
Pardew said live on talkSPORT [15 September, 7:57pm] that he believes Everton deserved more for their efforts.
He said: “Everton, bless their hearts. I thought they deserved something, but what a goal that was by Duran into the top corner.”
Everton out of ideas after another two-goal lead disappears
It seems unfathomable at the moment there were positives for Sean Dyche to take for his Everton side, despite Pardew’s remark.
Aston Villa dominated the opening exchanges at the weekend and could have easily scored two or three times before Amadou Onana gifted his former club a lifeline with McNeil capitalising for the opening goal.
It was night and day from their performance against Bournemouth, which can only be described as a capitulation as three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match wiped out 87 minutes of dominance from the Toffees at Goodison Park.
Whether their inability to hold on to a result can be attributed to mentality, game management, or luck, is anyone’s guess, there are signs that the Blues are taking one step forward, but they are also taking two steps back.
Iliman Ndiaye was sensational against Bournemouth and Calvert-Lewin is back among the goals with two in his last two outings, so Dyche needs to build his side around harnessing the best out of both moving forward.
In other Everton news, the Blues may regret their Neal Maupay decision after what he did for Marseille.
