Keith Hackett believes that the red card Carlos Baleba received in the Bournemouth and Brighton game was “extremely harsh.”
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former PGMOL chief, ex-FIFA, and Premier League referee slammed players for “exaggerating injuries.”
The Seagulls were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute of the game when Baleba was shown a second yellow card, but Hackett believes that one was avoidable.
The 20-year-old collided with Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez which led to him being sent off, as Fabian Hurzeler’s team were put under pressure.
Brighton were still able to win the game 2-1 regardless of their numerical disadvantage on the pitch, with the Seagulls climbing up to fifth in the Premier League table.
Brighton were harshly treated with the red card
Hacket told Football Insider, “I didn’t think this was a second yellow.
“The first [yellow card] he got right, but this second one was extremely harsh.
“It was avoidable.
“For me, this lying on the ground by players, exaggerating injuries, doesn’t help the referee.
“It was a soft yellow, to be honest, and the exaggeration didn’t help.”
