Bruno Fernandes sends message to Man United fans after Ten Hag sacking

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged fans to remember the good times after Erik ten Hag was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.

The 54-year-old Dutchman became the Premier League’s first managerial casualty of the season after Man United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday (October 27).

With the club sitting 14th in the table with 11 points from their first nine games, the board decided they had seen enough, finally acknowledging the writing on the wall.

Former player Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over on an interim basis as the club search for a permanent replacement for the former Ajax man.

Football Insider revealed (October 29) that Man United CEO Omar Berrada has held talks with Xavi Hernandez in Spain as the club’s managerial search intensifies.

Despite disappointing performances in the Premier League, Ten Hag secured two domestic cups during his time at Old Trafford: the League Cup in 2022-23 and the FA Cup last season.

Fernandes, 30, was integral for Ten Hag during his two-and-a-half years at the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 32 assists across all competitions under the Dutchman.

The attacking midfielder took to Instagram to wish his now ex-manager good luck and acknowledge the sorry state the club finds itself in, saying, “Thanks for everything boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future.

“Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club!”

Van Nistelrooy’s first game as Man United’s interim manager will come in their League Cup showdown with Leicester on Wednesday (October 30).

They then face a tough Premier League test against an in-form Chelsea side high off their recent 2-1 win over top-four rivals Newcastle on Sunday (October 27).
