Dave King has done “little to lighten the mood” at Ibrox after throwing his name in the hat to become the next Rangers chairman.
The former chairman, who currently owns just over 14 per cent shares in the Scottish club, did not mince his words after calling out the “astonishing” failure surrounding the redevelopment setbacks at Ibrox [Rangers Review].
The 69-year-old had already shared his concerns over the ongoing “crisis” emerging at Ibrox, making himself available for the vacant chairman role after John Bennett stepped down due to health reasons [talkSPORT].
Writing for the Daily Record on Monday (23 September), Jackson said: “The Rangers support has become weary of seeing the same old faces with the same old failings and the sight and sounds of Dave King kicking up a fuss all the way from his bunker in Johannesburg, has done little to lighten the mood.
“Over the course of the last week, King has kicked off his latest pied piper routine, attempting to rabble rouse and agitate the supporters who willed him into power almost a decade ago in the hope that history might repeat itself.
“He says he wants to return to the chairman’s seat as if these fans ought to be thrilled at the prospect of another absent landlord but the truth is that the bombastic King is no less of a busted flush than those he seeks to oust from control.”
Dave King picked apart after scathing review at Rangers
While King is, arguably, right with many of his comments about the current state of the Gers’ boardroom, his latest remarks are far from helpful in such a situation.
There are blatant issues at Ibrox, which have not just emerged since Bennett stepped down from his leading role at the club, and just the addition of King as chairman is unlikely to fix them.
One of the biggest concerns is the emergence of a “gulf” between themselves and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, in terms of spending power, on-pitch performances and confidence in acquiring silverware.
The Gers have already been knocked out of Champions League qualifying, dropping down to the Europa League, while their bitter rivals are living it large in the highest European competition.
Manager Philippe Clement is also coming under heavy fire, despite only being appointed in October, and that will certainly not ease until his side shows some grit and determination to challenge the Hoops.
Given all of these ongoing issues, King’s public assassination of the Gers’ boardroom in the media has done nothing to lighten any spirits at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the Gers dodged a bullet after what happened in the last 24 hours.
