'Can't see how...' - Stevie Clifford makes Cortes transfer admission after Rangers injury update

Stevie Clifford admits he “can’t see how” Rangers could scrap their loan-to-buy agreement for Oscar Cortes after a new injury update.

The winger, who joined the Gers on an initial loan with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer, is set for a spell on the sidelines having missed the clash with St Johnstone [Chris Jack, 6 October].

While some fans have suggested the Light Blues may not be keen to make the Colombian’s spell in Scotland permanent, Four Lads host Clifford doesn’t think the deal could be called off at this stage.

Writing on X on Monday (7 October) he said: “I know what you’re thinking, but an obligation to buy is exactly that.

“If the guy is injured in our training session then I can’t see how any clause would allow us to scrap any agreement.”

What has happened to Rangers attacker Oscar Cortes at Ibrox?

Rangers fans haven’t got to see the best of Cortes, but Philippe Clement his recruitment team must have been convinced by the winger if they agreed a deal to sign him again this summer after his injury-hit loan spell last term.

The Light Blues will have known exactly what they were getting themselves in for when that transfer decision was made this summer and because of that, they’re unlikely to be searching for a way to scrap a permanent move.

Yes, there will be concerns about the Colombian’s fitness recorded and rightly so, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t come good further down the line. So far, he has been unfortunate to pick up a few major injuries in his time in Glasgow.

Hopefully, he will be back in contention for a starting place sooner rather than later after the international break.

If he rediscovers the magic touch that made him so highly thought of last season, fans will be lauding the Gers for agreeing an obligation to buy when they did.
