Clement drops new Lawrence injury update ahead of Rangers clash v St Johnstone

Philippe Clement has dropped a new Tom Lawrence injury update ahead of the clash between Rangers and St Johnstone.

The Light Blues are looking to get back to winning ways at Ibrox and head into the October international break with three points on Sunday (6 October) having been thrashed by Lyon in the Europa League last time out.

Lawrence was one of the bright sparks of that European defeat, but Clement has confirmed that the Wales international has picked up a small injury which has stopped him from making the matchday squad in Glasgow.

Speaking to Rangers X page ahead of kick-off (6 October) Clement said: “Tom Lawrence has a small injury.

“Nothing big but too risky to let him play minutes.”

What has happened to Tom Lawrence at Rangers and Ibrox?

While Rangers have had a very mixed start to the season at Ibrox, Lawrence has been one of the most consistent performers in Clement’s squad having really begun to make that number 10 position his own in recent weeks.

Following the departure of Todd Cantwell, the Wales international has had very little competition for his starting place, but that now could be about to change with Nedim Bajrami and Ianis Hagi waiting in the wings.

Lawrence’s injury has opened the door for the Albanian international to finally play in what is understood to be his best position. If Bajrami impresses, it could well be hard for Lawrence to force his way back in after the international break.

Hopefully, even without the former Derby County man, Clement’s side will manage to find a way to claim all three points at Ibrox and Sunday to head into the international break with their heads held high.

If they lose again, the atmosphere inside Ibrox could get very toxic, very quickly.
