Celtic could make '£10m' January transfer window move - Keith Wyness

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he expects Celtic to sign “£5-10million” of new players in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – backed the Hoops’ board to “open the wallet” and give Brendan Rodgers the opportunity to progress in the Champions League.

Celtic have excelled in Europe so far this term, winning two and drawing one of their four continental fixtures.

Football Insider revealed on 6 November that they have already earned more than £31million in prize money from the Champions League this season.

The Parkhead club were big spenders in the most recent summer window, bringing the likes of Arne Engels, Adam Idah and Auston Trusty to Glasgow.

Wyness expects January movement at Celtic

Wyness admitted January spending won’t be “significant” but expects Celtic to make some moves.

Hetold Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We know there’s money.

“They’ve managed to turn around their performances in Europe, it’s fantastic.

“There is money in the bank, there’s Champions League money coming in.

“I do think they’ll open the wallet in January to a degree and try and give Brendan the chance to go further in Europe.

“It won’t be significant. I wouldn’t think it was anything more than £5-10million mid-season.

“They have proven they can get young talent in. The problem is now getting them acclimatised to European games going forward and get them to a level where they can make the difference at that level.”
