Celtic Exclusive: Big update on Dominik Livakovic today

Celtic have not yet agreed a deal to sign Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic with his wage demands a major hurdle to overcome, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Football Insider journalist and Scottish expert Daniel Bowers admitted it would be a “major coup” if the Hoops could secure the Croatia international this summer.

There have been reports that an agreement is already in place, but that is believed to be premature.

However, while the reported figure of £7-8million is seen as a realistic fee for him, the goalkeeper’s wages would be a “stumbling block” for the Scottish club.

Considering that Jose Mourinho has only just taken charge of the Turkish side, the experienced manager could be wary of letting Livakovic leave immediately before assessing the situation.

Celtic had been linked to the 29-year-old last summer, but the club saw no reason to make a move for him because Joe Hart was still playing.

Celtic need to replace Joe Hart

The defending Scottish Premiership champions need to sign a goalkeeper this season following Hart’s decision to retire at the end of last season.

The former England international leaves a big hole behind him after making 151 appearances for Celtic after signing from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021.

He established himself as a firm fan favourite due to his performances, and he played a vital role in the Hoops winning the Scottish Premiership last season because they had the best defensive record in the league.

Livakovic would make an ideal replacement due to his experience in European football and at an international level with Croatia.

The 29-year-old played 47 games for Fenerbahce last season across all competitions, keeping 21 clean sheets, showcasing the quality he could bring to Celtic Park.

In other news, Celtic could happily to let a striker leave this summer.
