Keith Wyness: Rangers could compensate 'fuming' fans after Ibrox chaos

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Rangers may have to pay for fan travel to Murrayfield if they move away from Ibrox temporarily.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Gers will be the “butt of jokes in Glasgow” after the stadium chaos.

Rangers confirmed last week (20 June) that they could be unable to begin the new season at Ibrox due to material shipping delays.

Wyness told Football Insider on Thursday (27 June) that Edinburgh’s Murrayfield is the “only sensible option” – and claimed the Gers could play there for the entire 2024-25 campaign.

Rangers are ‘the butt of jokes in Glasgow’ after Ibrox latest, says Wyness

The home of Scottish rugby is 47 miles away from Ibrox and will host a friendly between Rangers and Man United during pre-season.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There will be a lot of unrest, I’m sure.

“Rangers fans are very good, however, at keeping a public face together. They’ll try and air their frustrations behind closed doors.

“Until the problems become clearer and we get more details, it’s difficult.

“Will Rangers have to pay for travel to Murrayfield and give them similar seats in that stadium?

“The shareholders will be very unhappy, and the fans with season tickets will be fuming.

“Rangers will be embarrassed, and that’s the biggest issue for fans. They are going to be the butt of jokes in Glasgow because of the stadium.

“I’ve already seen so many memes about Ibrox falling, and that’s what hurts.”
