Celtic fans explode as 'disgraceful' St Johnston footage re-analysed

Celtic fans have been left fuming as footage of Daizen Maeda’s disallowed goal against St Johnstone was re-analysed on social media.

Brendan Rodgers’ side cruised to an emphatic 6-0 win on the road thanks to a brace from Kyogo Furuhasi and goals from Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Maeda and Adam Idah.

However, with the scoreline tight at 1-0, Maeda crashed home a volley from just inside the box which was disallowed for an apparent foul in the buildup.

Replays showed Saints defender Graham Carey had run into Celtic’s Auston Trusty in a heavy collision which sent him to ground holding his head.

It looked a sore one for the defender, but there was nothing the Hoops man could have done about it as he was making a run in the opposite direction to attack the ball.

As footage emerged on social media, fans were left stunned by the decision by the referee Don Robertson and VAR official Alan Muir.

This is not the first controversial decision to go against Celtic this season, with fans having labelled the SFA “corrupt” after they were denied a penalty against Kilmarnock.

However, one supporter has gone as far as to suggest Maeda’s disallowed goal is “one of the worst VAR decisions yet” as the increasing frustration continues.

VAR has often been the centre of plenty of controversy in Scotland, but the latest decision has left fans raging as they took to social media to express their frustration.
