Celtic players need to be wary of becoming complacent in the Champions League after their comprehensive 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has warned Brendan Rodgers and his boys about getting too big for their boots in Europe, telling them to ‘get on with it’ ahead of their trip to Borussia Dortmund.

The Glasgow club cruised to a home victory over their Slovakian counterparts, with goals from five separate scorers: Liam Scales, Kyogo Furuhashi, Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, and Adam Idah.

Celtic currently sit second in the new Champions League league phase, behind German giants Bayern Munich.

Their trip to Germany will undoubtedly be much tougher than their opening game, despite Dortmund’s poor start to the season.

Nuri Sahin’s side beat Belgians Club Brugge 3-0 thanks to a brace from English winger Jamie Gittens and a 95th-minute penalty from Serhou Guirassy.

“I didn’t like last Thursday when some of the Celtic players were saying ‘We’re not scared of anyone in Europe’ because of the good result against Bratislava”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I’m thinking ‘Shut up’ You just don’t want that, you just need to get on with it and go for the next game.”
