'Sore' - Chris Sutton posts instant reaction to controversial Rangers loss v Dynamo Kyiv

Chris Sutton reacted to the Rangers’ defeat to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden Park to brand it a “sore one” for the Light Blues.

The former Celtic striker took to X on 13 August after Philippe Clement’s side saw their Champions League hopes ended by a 2-0 loss having controversially gone down to 10 men.

Jefte was shown a second booking just after the break for a nothing challenge as he jumped for a header, but the Light Blues held their own until a quick-fire double broke their resistance in the closing stages.

Sutton acknowledged the painful manner of the defeat as he wrote: “Sore one for Rangers tonight.”

Ridvan Yilmaz stretchered off in tears for Rangers

In terms of what Clement would have been hoping for from that game the night went about as badly as it could have done.

It must have been an unfortunate night for Rangers if even Sutton didn’t see fit to make a smart comment about it, after a performance where the home side looked the more likely for most of the game.

Had Ross McCausland or Mohamed Diomande taken inviting chances after good support play from Cyriel Dessers it could have been a different story.

It still took nearly half an hour of playing a man down for the Light Blues to succumb to two late goals, and they arguably had the better chances for most of that period.

Chris Sutton responded to the Rangers defeat immediately.

But a bitter defeat which means none of the cash windfall towards Clement’s transfer budget is the result after a dismal refereeing decision changed the game, with VAR unable to intervene on either booking.

Injury to Yilmaz looks set to weaken the squad even further and there were worrying performances from the likes of Robin Propper and Dujon Sterling.

There were some positives to take from the likes of Dessers, Jefte himself, and a more assured outing from John Souttar, but that will be scant reward right now.

In other Rangers news, an exit-bound Ibrox star doesn’t want to go but Clement isn’t interested.
