'Come on' - Paul Merson amazed by what he saw in Rangers loss v Dynamo

Paul Merson was shocked to see Jefte shown a red card as Rangers fell to defeat against Dynamo Kyiv in their Champions League qualifier.

The summer signing was shown a second yellow card when catching his opponent with his arm as he attempted to win an aerial ball.

Jefte was living dangerously after picking up his first yellow before half-time, but the decision to dismiss the Brazilian came as a surprise.

As Kris Boyd was having his say on the decision live on Sky Sports News [13 August, 8:56pm], Merson could be heard saying: “Oh come on.”

Boyd then added: “It’s never a yellow card in your life. You need to use your arms to jump.

“Honestly, if that’s a yellow card, I don’t know where the game’s gone.”

Rangers have every right to be furious with Jefte decision

Jefte looked distraught at the decision to send him off and rightly so. It could be argued it was not even a free-kick, let alone a second booking.

At the very most, the referee should have had a word and told him to be careful. Nobody would have complained had that been the case.

Many will wonder exactly why Philippe Clement did not take him off at the midway point, though, as he was already on a yellow card.

Ross McCausland was instead sacrificed as Vaclav Cerny came on, and that ultimately came back to haunt Clement as Jefte was sent off.

That dismissal undoubtedly played a part in the full-time result, even if the Gers did well to keep Dynamo at bay for large parts.

For all the talk of decisions balancing themselves out over the course of the season, this was a costly error that will cost the Gers millions.

In other Rangers news, the BBC were slammed over their coverage of the Champions League qualifier.
