Chris Jack: Rangers man 'One to watch' before 30 August deadline despite Clement transfer hint

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo is still “one to watch” at Ibrox ahead of the 30 August transfer deadline, according to Chris Jack.

The Welshman scored his first goals of the Premiership season as the Gers thrased Ross County 6-0, with Philippe Clement hinting after the game that he was unlikely to depart this summer [Daily Record, 26 August].

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly keen to tempt the attacker away from Glasgow before the window closes [Daily Record, 22 August] and Rangers Review journalist Jack doesn’t believe an exit is entirely off of the cards.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (26 August) he said: “If you take him on what the manager said post-match, it was the case of the players who are not in the squad are the more likely ones to move on.

“Obviously, Ben Davies was then confirmed in 24 hours. Matondo, I still think is on that cusp. If he stays, he will provide these moments, will he do it often enough? If he moves on, can Rangers get someone who is more consistent, who is more available and more reliable?

“I think Matondo is still really one to watch over the next couple of days.”

Will Rabbi Matondo exit Rangers ahead of Ibrox transfer deadline?

In an idela world, the Gers would be building around Matondo this summer. But the winger’s injury history and lack of consistency on the pitch means that the Light Blues will have to consider any last minute offers that could arrive.

The Welsh international is believed to be on high wages at Ibrox and while he is capable of moments of magic, they have been few and far between in a Rangers shirt over the last couple of seasons.

Clement is more likely to sanction the sale of the likes of Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi ahead of the winger, seeing as they’re out of the first team picture completely, but that doesn’t mean other exits won’t happen.

If Blackburn or any other team for that matter put their money on the table, the Gers will have a decision to make.

Whatever call Clement and those above him choose to make won’t be popular and they could well divide the fanbase.
