Report: Liverpool in talks to sign £50m attacker tipped to be 'better' than Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have enjoyed a productive start to the season under newly-appointed manager Arne Slot.

The Reds currently sit second in the Premier League having taken 21 points from a possible 24 ahead of their clash against Chelsea this afternoon.

It appears they’re in a genuine title race, which wasn’t really considered when Slot first took over from Klopp.

So, the January transfer window represents a great opportunity to further strengthen and aid their title push.

With that said, it’s just come to light that Liverpool are in talks to sign a striker on the continent.

Liverpool in talks to sign Omar Marmoush

According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are in talks to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this January.

Their interest in the Egyptian is growing and it’s understood he’d be eager to make the switch to Merseyside should an offer arrive.

However, a move in January is considered unlikely, as Liverpool would have to outlay around £50m on his signature.

Marmoush is under contract until 2027 and Frankfurt would like to extend it, but he is hesitant amid Liverpool’s interest.

Marmoush has been tipped to be better than Mohamed Salah.

Marmoush statistics compared to Darwin Nunez

If Liverpool were to sign Marmoush, he’d be competing against Darwin Nunez for a spot in Slot’s starting 11.

Here are how their statistics compare, as per FBref.

Stats per 90Omar MarmoushDarwin Nunez
Non-penalty goals0.510.53
Shot-creating actions3.923.44
Progressive carries3.342.45
Progressive passes2.592.19

Evidently, Marmoush’s underlying data is actually superior to Nunez’s, though, the Bundesliga is a lower standard than the Premier League.
