Chris Sutton believes that James Tavernier does not look happy at Rangers while he’s also fired shots at Mohamed Diomande.
The former Celtic striker has admitted that the Ivory Coast international is not justifying the £4million Gers paid to secure his services.
Currently, the Ibrox outfit find themselves languishing in third place, nine points off the top of the table.
Sutton told the Daily Record: “James Tavernier doesn’t look happy and while Cyriel Dessers lacks composure, he doesn’t exactly get a lot of help. For £4m plus, Mohamed Diomande should be dominating games yet I still don’t know what he brings. Connor Barron is a good little player, but he should be one for the here and now at a club like Rangers.”
Philippe Clement is certainly responsible for some of this mess at Rangers
Philippe Clement’s tenure at Ibrox has been marked by underwhelming performances and results, which could partly be attributed to his inability to effectively utilise his squad, including key players.
It reflects poorly on the Belgian’s tactical setup and player management, suggesting he hasn’t found a way to leverage Diomande’s strengths effectively in the Rangers system.
Similarly, Tavernier’s apparent discontent could stem from a mismatch between his playing style and Clement’s expectations, or a lack of confidence instilled by the manager’s system.
The Englishman has been linked with a move away from Ibrox [Sky Sports], but is still a first-team player at the club.
Given Tavernier’s long-standing role as a leader and key player at the club, his current demeanour and performance might indicate deeper issues within the team dynamics or tactics, for which Clement, as the manager, bears considerable responsibility.
If Clement can’t rejuvenate Tavernier’s performance or integrate expensive talents like Diomande, showing him the door might indeed be considered to reset the team’s direction.
Whether or not the board are willing to act, remains to be seen.
In other Rangers news, the club now need to pay a sizeable fee in order to hire an award-winning manager to replace Philippe Clement.
