Liverpool have some difficult decisions to make in upcoming transfer windows.
Indeed, as Arne Slot’s side evolves, the Reds need to make some tough calls on a few of their players.
Of course, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situations are the priority at the moment, but there are also decisions to make on some fringe players.
Joe Gomez was apparently looking to move in the summer, while Caoimhin Kelleher has said that he wants more gametime.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, Chris Sutton has been discussing the £30m goalkeeper’s situation, and he’s made a suggestion for the Irishman.
Caoimhin Kelleher should join Celtic
Sutton advocated for Kelleher to join Celtic.
Of course, Sutton himself is an ex-Celtic player, so there is an element of bias attached here, but the pundit believes this could be a brilliant move for Kelleher.
“Where should the Liverpool reserve goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, move to? Kelleher, of course, has said he’s unhappy with life on the bench at Liverpool,” Sutton was asked.
“I mean, he could move anywhere, couldn’t he, really? He’s the best back-up keeper, I think, I’ve ever seen in the Premier League,” Sutton said.
“Anyway, where should Kelleher go to?”
“Celtic. That won’t happen in Celtic, but because of his Irish roots, Celtic,’ Sutton said.
Where will Kelleher go?
Sutton says that Celtic would be a great move for Kelleher, but, as Sutton says, this move is probably unlikely.
With all due respect, the Scottish Premiership isn’t the highest standard of league in Europe, and Kelleher can aim higher.
Kelleher has recently been touted for a move to Bayern Munich, and that’s the sort of level he could be aiming at.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to join Liverpool next year, and that will be the point where Kelleher surely leaves Anfield.
Where the Irishman goes next remains to be seen, but as romantic as a move to Celtic would be, it’s hard to see Kelleher moving north of the border anytime soon.
Kelleher is more likely to join a top club within the Premier League or in Europe than head to Celtic.
