Rangers players could be in “trouble” ahead of their Scottish League Cup final against Celtic, Barry Ferguson says.
The former Gers skipper believes the Light Blues’ squad can’t have any doubts going into the fixture at Hampden Park on 15 December.
Philippe Clement is set to defend his silverware in the Old Firm derby, with the Hoops currently sitting 11 points ahead of the Bears in the Scottish Premiership.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast [2 December], Ferguson said: “If you go into the game as a Rangers player with any doubts, you’re beat.
“How well Celtic are playing, you can’t deny it. If you go in with any doubts, you’re in for trouble.”
Rangers need to win v Celtic
The Gers have struggled for most of the season, and it’s unlikely they’ll be able to catch up to Celtic in the league table.
With the Ibrox faithful disappointed, the Light Blues have a chance to get their hands on the season’s first silverware and change the mood around the Glaswegian outfit.
The Bears seem to be getting back on track off the pitch after a turbulent few months with the departure of James Bisgrove and John Bennett.
Patrick Stewart’s arrival as the new CEO on 16 December will undoubtedly be a massive boost for Rangers, with Malcolm Offord also expected to be named chairman [Daily Record, 25 November].
The Light Blues put in their best performance of the season against OGC Nice in the Europa League on 28 November, winning 4-1 as Vaclav Cerny, Mohamed Diomande and Hamza Igamane’s brace sealed a massive result.
But the Ibrox faithful had to see the Bears put in another disappointing domestic display in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone on 1 December, with an own goal from Jason Holt required at McDiarmid Park.
The Glaswegian outfit have some crucial matches coming ahead, starting with Kilmarnock on 4 December, with Tottenham and Celtic to follow soon after.
It’s make-or-break time.
In other Rangers news, Clement will be lucky to avoid being sacked in December.
