Bournemouth would be open to selling Illia Zabarnyi amid links with a move to Tottenham, Paul Robinson has said.
Spurs would have to splash £50million to secure the Ukrainian centre-back’s signature, according to CaughtOffside [15 November], and the club have now been urged to make a deal happen.
The 22-year-old, who arrived in the Premier League in a £24million deal in January 2023 [Bournemouth Echo], has gained plenty of interest and could be the subject of a summer transfer battle.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Zabarnyi is a top player and if Spurs were interested in him, there would be other Premier League clubs interested. He’s a top, top-quality defender, who I’ve seen first-hand at Bournemouth this season.
“It’s only his second season in the Premier League but he’s already got that experience. Bournemouth won’t stand in his way – they’ve proven that before. If there is Champions League football on offer, there’s a deal to be done.
“Newcastle are looking at him. I think Zabarnyi will move on from Bournemouth but it’s a tough deal to do in January. He will enhance any Premier League team. He has 40-odd caps for Ukraine already.
Tottenham to battle for Illia Zabarnyi’s signature this summer?
“He’s a clever football and I have no doubt, whether it be Tottenham or another team in England, that he will move on in the summer.”
Considering the injury concerns regarding Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, it makes sense for Daniel Levy and Spurs to invest in a new centre-back signing.
Radu Dragusin has been given limited chances, and on the occasions when he has started, the Romanian has not been the most convincing player in defence.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs will enter into the January transfer market but if they want to compete in the Premier League and Europa League this season, their campaign could depend on it.
In other Tottenham news, a new Ange Postecoglou sack update has emerged, with a report sharing when the trigger could be pulled in North London.
