Chris Sutton takes fresh jab at Rangers after what Martin O'Neill did years ago

Chris Sutton has cheekily fired a new dig at Rangers after being questioned about his favourite non-scoring moment in his footballing career.

The striker played nearly 200 games for the Celtic between 2000 and 2006 and will have featured in multiple Old Firm derbies, with that distaste and rivalry continuing to live on.

It is certainly a simple task to poke fun at the Light Blue right now, who are suffering under the guidance of Philippe Clement, and Sutton has taken his opportunity to kick the club while it’s down.

Speaking via the It’s All Kicking Off podcast [18 November], he said: “I think it must have been when I played centre-back once, Martin O’Neill threw me in on the morning of a game at Ibrox in the early 2000s. We won 1-0 and I played safe.

“I did enjoy it because of the nature of the game, and how it was just put on me. I was up against Michael Moles, who was a good player. They were good back then, Rangers.”

Rangers continue to falter in the shadow of Celtic

Passionate fans at Ibrox will absolutely hate the thought of falling behind their Old Firm rivals, but with nine points separating them in the Scottish Premiership table, there is no hiding from it.

There is a rather big gulf between the clubs, especially in terms of transfer spending and budgets, and the hierarchy at Ibrox is being put under more and more pressure to change things.

Fans deserve so much more than the club, and with Aberdeen looking far more likely to finish second in the league, there is a threat of a massive fallout emerging at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement looks to be skating on thin ice, with the Belgian often using excuses to explain the poor results and performances of his players, but he may not be around for long.

It is understood that Clement could be next in line for the manager job of the Belgium national team, which would already draw him away from Ibrox after just 13 months in charge.

In other Rangers news, an injured star is surely close to a return from injury as a new video emerges, Philippe Clement will be relieved.
