Kris Boyd names one Rangers star and six Celtic players in SPFL Team of the Week

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland and six Celtic players were named in Kris Boyd’s SPFL Team of the Week for the recently concluded gameweek.

Butland made a stunning penalty save and kept a clean sheet as Gers beat Hibs 1-0 on Sunday, 29 September at Ibrox.

Celtic beat St Johnstone 6-0 over the weekend and Boyd named Auston Trusty, Liam Scales, Paulo Bernardo, Callum McGregor, Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi in his eleven.

Even though Boyd, a known Gers supporter, might typically favour their players, the selection of six Celtic players over just one from the Ibrox outfit indicates a significant disparity in individual performance across the two teams.

Butland’s inclusion, based on his crucial penalty save and clean sheet against Hibs, underscores his value as a standout performer for Rangers.

However, the lack of other Rangers players in the lineup suggests that while Butland excels, the rest of the team does not match his level of performance.

This points towards the need for the Gers to enhance their squad’s depth and overall performance to compete effectively, especially considering the Celtics’ recent strong performance.

The onus also lies on Philippe Clement to get the best out of his players as recent displays have been fairly inconsistent.

They managed to get their way against Hibs, but tougher opponents could make matters difficult for them.
