Clement responds as Stevie Clifford make 'Boring' Rangers admission ahead of clash v FCSB

Philippe Clement has responded to Stevie Clifford after he made a “boring” Rangers admission ahead of the clash with FCSB.

The Light Blues get their Europa League campaign back underway at Ibrox on Thursday (24 October) as they look to get back to winning ways after a disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock last time out.

Following the defeat to Derek McInnes’ side at Rugby Park on Sunday (20 October) Four Lads host Clifford relayed supporters’ frustrations with Clement’s dull style of football to the Light Blues manager.

Speaking in a press conference as shared by Four Lads on X (23 October) Clifford said: “You know as well as I do there’s a lot of anger after Sunday.

“One of the main complaints is Rangers’ style of football. Too many long balls, too many needless passes side to side, how do you respond to accusations this team is boring to watch?”

Clement hit back: “It’s two totally opposite things that you say there.”

Clifford replied: “Well the accusation from the fans is there’s too much of it, there’s no attacking player and they’re boring to watch. How do you respond to that?”

The Gers boss responded: “What you’re saying now, is it too many long balls or too many sideways passes? It’s about creating not enough chances, that’s the conclusion at the end.

“I agree with that in the Kilmarnock game that was the case. In other games, we created more chances, not in all the games until now but you see we’re also starting to play with new players in that role who are just in the building.

“Nedim Bajrami is how long here? Four weeks, six weeks maximum and in the six weeks he’s been three or four weeks away with the national team so they’re just in the building.

“There are other players at other clubs who come to a better level now after their first six months after everyone has said they’re just not good.

“Nedim did already good things, but of course you need to create these moments on the pitch more and more to get to know each other, to know which moment to run, which moments to play deep or which moments to create a chance or a shot.

“We need to create these moments by playing more and more together.”

Will Rangers sack Philippe Clement after recent Ibrox exit developments?

Clement can suggest that his team’s style of football isn’t boring as much as he likes, but it does feel as though the majority of supporters have already made their minds up about this squad and the manager.

Currently, the Light Blues are not entertaining to watch. Anyone who has watched them so far this term will be in agreement that this is not a team of entertainers playing an entertaining brand of football.

They are capable of moments of magic and the likes of Bajrami and Vaclav Cerny can be truly dangerous when at their best, but they are not having a consistent impact week in and week out and that is ultimately harming the Gers.

Clifford was right to raise these concerns with Clement and while the Light Blues boss did shoot down suggestions of his style of football being boring, he must know the excuse of having a new squad to work with has already worn thin.
