Tinubu scraps Ministry of Sports, demotes John Enoh

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a significant cabinet reshuffle by scrapping the Ministry of Sports and demoting Senator John Owan Enoh, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Cross River-born administrator, Enoh, previously served as the Minister of Sports Development for more than a year following his appointment to the role in August.

This decision came during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, where several key ministries were restructured and some scrapped.

The Ministry of Sports will now be replaced by the newly established National Sports Commission (NSC), with former LMC-NPFL Chairman, Shehu Dikko, appointed as the Commission’s chairman. Enoh has been reassigned as Minister of State for Trade and Investment, marking his demotion from a full ministerial role.

In addition to the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports, the Niger Delta Ministry has also been scrapped. A new Ministry of Regional Development will be created to oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and others from the North, South, and West regions.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism has been merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy which forms a broader effort to streamline the government’s activities. These changes form part of Tinubu’s bid to boost the efficiency and performance of his administration.
