Clement shares positive Fri PM injury update on Rangers ace

Philippe Clement has provided a positive update on Leon Balogun after he picked up an injury as Rangers took on St Mirren.

The defender was forced to come off with an injury in the 19th minute as his side lost 2-1 away at St Mirren on Thursday (26 December).

As he hobbled off the pitch, it looked to be a bad injury for the 36-year-old, with worries that he could be set to face a prolonged period sidelines.

However, Clement has provided what appears to be a positive update on the situation as he told Gordon Duncan on Sky Sports News (27 December, 2:41pm): “We don’t know about a timeframe yet, but it looks for the moment it’s less serious than we thought in the first moment. He’ll have a scan today.”

Leon Balogun injury for Rangers might not be serious

It’s not surprising that there were worries after Balogun had to come off the pitch for Rangers on Thursday, as it looked like a sore muscle injury that could keep the defender out.

Furthermore, with Clement already having defensive issues due to injury, this only adds to the worries the manager has as he tries to get his side back on track after their loss.

The Gers conceded 11 minutes after the experienced defender came off the pitch, which perhaps speaks volumes about how vital he is in the back-line for the Scottish Premiership side this term.

With this in mind, it is pleasing to hear that the injury looks less serious than it was initially thought, as that suggests he might not be out on the sidelines for too long.

After the scan, Rangers should know more but Clement wouldn’t have shared this update if he wasn’t sure that fans don’t have to worry too much.

With games coming thick and fast at this stage in the season, Balogun will be a loss, but if the Gers don’t have to be without him for too long that will be a boost.

In other Rangers news, one player’s performance against St Mirren could be what leads to his exit in January.
