Rangers player trains alone at loan club, left complex early - report

Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes was seen training alone during his loan spell with Cruzeiro as rumours regarding his future continue to circulate, according to O Tempo.

The report from the Brazilian publication (1 August) indicates that during an open training session on Thursday, Cifuentes was conducting his daily exercise away from the rest of the squad.

It added that Cifuentes was seen leaving the training centre at Cruzeiro early.

This comes in the midst of reports that Cifuentes is on the verge of joining Greek side Aris Thessaloniki on a loan-to-buy deal (Yellow Radio, 31 July).

The supporters would’ve preferred for Cifuentes to kick on and become an all-time great at Rangers. Alas, football doesn’t always work that way, and that’s certainly the case with this deal.

The 25-year-old has been struggling to make any kind of consistent impact with both the Scottish giants and Cruzeiro with both being quick to notice that.

Plus, with him being offered a decent wage to move to Aris, nobody can blame him for making the switch. Philippe Clement has been one of the first to acknowledge the issues within the squad last season and the Belgian boss has prioritised change during the summer window.

At this point, though, it’s all about managing your time. Cifuentes is likely to complete his move sooner rather than later, but for Rangers, the priority is on starting their league campaign this weekend against Heartson a high note.

Pre-season hasn’t been perfect, but all of that goes out of the window on Saturday.
