'Cloud Cuckoo Land' - Sutton hits out at what fan said live on air about Everton figure

Chris Sutton has slammed an Everton fan for “living in cloud cuckoo land” after complaining about Sean Dyche’s style of play.

The Toffees drew 0-0 against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Saturday (5 October) in a game in which they had just 32 per cent possession, with Jordan Pickford attempting 25 long balls, majorly aiming for Dominic Calvert-Lewin [FotMob].

While Dyche’s men were unable to claim all three points, they were able to put another point on the Premier League table and even had a controversial penalty decision go against them.

An Everton fan named Stu called into BBC Radio 5 Live on Saturday (5 October) to moan about the style of football under Sean Dyche, suggesting many are frustrated by the tactic of booting the ball up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In response, Sutton said: “Do you think it’s fair what you’re saying about Sean Dyche? He’s come into a struggling club. You’re in cloud cuckoo land.

“This is a club which spent half a billion pounds, going back a few years, bringing in all these top managers who were meant to kick the club on, but these didn’t work.

“Then the club takes a downward turn, and brings a firefighter in, which is what Dyche is, to get the best out of the players he has.”

Dyche’s days on Merseyside certainly looked numbered after the opening five matches of the Premier League season, having gained one point from the 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

The back-to-back 3-2 comeback defeats against Bournemouth and Aston Villa just rubbed salt into the gaping wounds at Goodison Park, but Dyche looks to have finally steadied the ship.

With another point earned against the Magpies, the Toffees are floating just above the relegation zone, though they are nowhere near securing safety just yet.

Upcoming matches against Ipswich Town, Fulham, Southampton and West Ham could already be key in the grand scheme of things, especially with the squad seemingly gelling together.

Of course, there will be many fans who are unhappy with the playing style under Dyche, but that will be the case at many clubs if not all of them in the Premier League.

Unless things begin to turn sour for the current manager again, the 53-year-old does not look like leaving his post anytime soon.
