'Shambles' - Carragher slams Everton for what they did to Gordon after Newcastle penalty miss

Jamie Carragher has torn into Everton after they posted a video mocking Anthony Gordon following the Toffees’ showdown with Newcastle United.

Sean Dyche’s side headed into the October international break with another point under their belt as they played out a 0-0 draw with the Magpies at Goodison Park on Saturday (5 October) after Gordon missed a first-half penalty.

Following the full-time whistle, the Blues posted a video of the winger’s penalty with a buzzer noise overlayed as Jordan Pickford denied him from the spot, much to the frustration of Carragher.

Writing on X on Sunday (6 October) Carragher said: “Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on and off the pitch and who you then sold for 40M.

“The Peoples club!”

What happened to Anthony Gordon at Everton and Goodison Park?

While Carragher is right that Gordon did help the Toffees avoid relegation under the management of Frank Lampard, fans will always remember the England international for forcing his way out of the club when they needed him most.

For all the good he did at Goodison Park, the winger burned his bridges when he made the move to Newcastle and whether he likes it or not, the club and its supporters are always going to hold a grudge because of it.

The Toffees’ social media post was brutal, but it was by no means over the top. In the modern age of football, these sort of reactionary videos are part and parcel of the game and similar things will have happened at games up and down the country.

Ultimately, very few fans are going to care what Carragher thinks of their latest social media post. The important thing is that the Toffees picked up another important point in their fight to avoid the drop this term.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could reignite their interest in one Newcastle man during the January transfer window
