'He's Solely To Blame' - Pundit blasts 'Stubborn' Clement at Rangers after what he's done

Philippe Clement appears “stubborn” as he refuses to change his ways and recent Rangers defeats are entirely his fault, says Derek Ferguson.

Two losses at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen 10 days apart in late October have left the Light Blues nine points off the pace in the Scottish Premiership to put the Belgian’s job in the sack spotlight.

And ex-Ibrox favourite Ferguson holds the manager wholly responsible for failing to adapt when tactics aren’t working and other managers know exactly how to set up against him.

The 1-0 reverse at Rugby Park on 20 October saw Clement squander the opportunity to close the gap on Celtic and Aberdeen, and his opposite number has since been linked as a possible Ibrox replacement [Scottish Sun, 31 October].

There is no shortage of chaos around the Gers boss in Glasgow but Ferguson doesn’t believe that is something he can hide behind when he is demonstrating his own shortcomings with the performances on the pitch.

A comeback 2-1 victory in the League Cup semi final against Motherwell on 3 November and a creditable 1-1 away draw with Olympiacos on 7 November have eased some pressure on Clement but it will mean little if league form doesn’t improve.

Rangers beaten at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen

“I think he’s solely to blame, I’m going to be honest with you,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News.

“I think that game at Kilmarnock, we know how difficult it is going up against a Derek McInnes side, so put aside the weather, the weather wasnae great, we know its an Astroturf park, but the players already know that.

“The manager knows that. He’s had a year in the job, with his feet underneath the table, so he knows exactly what to expect.

“Sometimes I think he’s got to throw in a curveball, sometimes you’ve got to do something different, or it just looks like he’s pretty stubborn and he’s going to play this same formation.

“And when teams and managers know exactly how you’re going to set up in the way they prepare, Derek McInnes would have prepared for that Rangers side.

“So it’s got to be on the manager, because every now and again he’s got to find a way and sometimes that to just tinker a little bit with the formation, with the players as well, but he doesn’t seem to want to do that.

“He’s intent on, ‘I’m going to do the same things, I’m going to go about my business in the way we train, the way we prepare is the exact same, we’re going to pick to pick roughly the same side’.”
