Club now hope for Everton transfer bid in race for striker transfer - report

Roma are now hoping for Everton or one of their rival suitors for Tammy Abraham to kick off the bidding, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian outlet reported online (14 June) that the Serie A side want an auction to begin so they can sell the former Chelsea striker so they can build up a transfer budget to make signings of their own as they eye Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion.

Aston Villa, West Ham, Tottenham and Leicester are all interested in Abraham along with the Toffees, and he is no longer in the plans at the Stadio Olimpico.

Everton have reported already discussed a move for the 26-year-old, who is available for around £20million [Daily Mail, 14 June].

Former Chelsea man could replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton

On paper there are obvious similarities between Abraham and the Toffees’ current number nine in Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Both are proven Premier League goal scorers and England internationals with inconsistent scoring records and fitness concerns.

So there is probably little wisdom in looking to pair the two at Goodison Park, which is just as well when it seems pretty unlikely that Everton could afford to make any eight-figure transfer bids unless sales are first made.

Calvert-Lewin is wanted at Newcastle and currently has just a year on his deal on Merseyside left, although talks have been opened over an extension.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be coming to the end of his time at Everton.

Sean Dyche has Beto and Youssef Chermiti behind him but would be left short if the first-choice option left.

Everton have also been linked to an even more expensive move for another Chelsea academy product in Armando Broja this summer [Ben Jacobs, 9 June], but that is not expected to be possible unless Calvert-Lewin leaves.

The Albanian international also has a serious injury in his recent past and hasn’t been in the goals for a while, and although he is four years Abraham’s junior the more senior man is arguably the more sensible target.

In other Everton news, Manchester United’s budget capabilities have emerged after a derisory bid was made at Goodison Park.
