Club respond as Everton table loan-to-buy bid for new striker transfer - report

Everton have seen a loan with obligation to buy bid for Iliman Ndiaye rejected by Marseille, according to Canal Plus.

Writing on his personal X account (24 June), editor Adam reports that the Toffees want to do a deal that would defer the majority of payment to next summer, but Marseille want a direct transfer immediately.

The two clubs are still working on a deal, with an agreement said to be “very close” for an eight-figure sum [Abdellah Boulma, 24 June], while Fabrizio Romano reports a deal is in the “final stages“.

Everton being creative with transfer business this summer

It’s been a long time since the Toffees were able to be praised for their creativity and work done during a transfer window, but they deserve some credit currently.

Sean Dyche lost Arnaut Danjuma, Andre Gomes and Dele Alli at the end of their contracts but extended the stay of veteran defenders Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman, while Idrissa Gueye also saw his contract extended to keep the bulk of a squad that would have finished 11th last season barring point deductions together.

They’ve now confirmed a deal that sees Jack Harrison return on another season-long loan too, while Tim Iroegbunam has arrived from Aston Villa to bolster the midfield.

But that deal was creative with Lewis Dobbin going the other way in a separate transaction, allowing the club to close a PSR hole [Paul Joyce, 20 June] and give them more control over the future of the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Ensuring they don’t overspend again this summer is key to a sustainable future and a loan for Ndiaye would be sensible, but getting the player in is vital too so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
