Alan Myers issues Calvert-Lewin contract verdict after Everton exit collapses

Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks unlikely to sign a new Everton contract despite a potential move to Newcastle falling through, says Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to a question on Twitter on 24 June after he had reported that a deal with the Magpies was now off, indicating he doesn’t personally expect the striker to extend his terms at Goodison Park.

Calvert-Lewin has a year left on his Toffies contract and is attracting interest from other Premier League clubs such as West Ham and Brentford [Football Transfers, 21 June].

To the suggestion that the 27-year-old might sign a new deal now he appears not to be heading to St. James’ Park Myers replied: “I don’t see that but let’s see”.

BBC Sport reported on 30 May that the club had entered into talks with the Englishman over an extension.

Everton move for Iliman Ndiaye amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin uncertainty

There is seemingly a reasonable expectation at Goodison that their number nine won’t be around at the start of next season since they are now thought to be on the brink of agreeing a deal for Marseille attacker Iliman Ndiaye [Foot Mercato, 24 June] and have been strongly linked with Chelsea’s Armando Broja.

That suggests not only that there will be space for a new forward in Sean Dyche’s squad but that cash could be coming in to fund such a deal.

Exits for the likes of Amadou Onana or Ben Godfrey could also generate a budget but action would perhaps be on signings at other positions otherwise when Beto and Youssef Chermiti are also at Everton.

Having slogged through two seasons of injury hell it would be a disappointment to see Calvert-Lewin leave off the back of something of a rebound campaign, where he scored eight goals in 38 games.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is predicted not to sign a new Everton contract.

Although the presumed takeover by Dan Friedkin suggests the financial situation could soon be on the road to recovery the club still probably don’t have the luxury of losing a player for nothing next year that they could realistically get a decent fee for now.

And if he is minded to move on that might be the only option as long as a suitor is willing to pay a suitable amount.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have now made offers to sign a player from their prospective new sister club.
