Report: Arsenal target who Jude Bellingham called 'unbelievable' now expected to stay at current club

Arsenal are looking to fine-tune their squad in the upcoming week as we edge closer to deadline day.

Mikel Merino’s impending arrival at the Emirates Stadium coupled with reports that Arsenal are looking to sign an attacker have been well received by the Gunners faithful.

Their goalkeeping department could also undergo a re-jig before the window slams shut, with Aaron Ramsdale linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With Justin Bijlow agreeing a deal to join Southampton, it now appears as if Arsenal are going to be frustrated in their efforts to sign another goalkeeper as Andriy Lunin looks set to remain at Real Madrid.

According to The Athletic, the Ukrainian goalkeeper is now expected to remain at Real Madrid for the current season.

However, it remains unclear at this stage if he’ll renew his contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2025.

The 25-year-old was offered an extension until 2028 by Real Madrid earlier this summer, but the report fails to mention whether or not that deal remains on the table.

Lunin was referred to as ‘unbelievable’ by Jude Bellingham last season as he played a big role in Real Madrid’s double-winning season.

In Thibaut Courtois’ absence, he made 31 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos, keeping 12 clean sheets.

Quoted as ‘world-class’ by Tribuna, Lunin was linked with a move to Arsenal after enjoying arguably the best season of his professional career so far.

Nevertheless, he is set to stay in Spain for the current campaign, meaning Arsenal have to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper.

Who can Arsenal sign if Ramsdale leaves?

Arsenal are in talks to sign Joan Garcia and are likely to press ahead with a deal for the Spaniard if Ramsdale leaves.

Garcia has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and is reportedly set to cost £21m.

If the deal goes through, the Spanish Under-21 international is set to deputise for his compatriot David Raya, who enjoyed a strong first season at the club after moving from Brentford last summer.

Raya kept 16 clean sheets last season and played a big part in Arsenal boasting the best defensive record in the league as they conceded just 29 Premier League goals.
