Club shaken towards sale by Everton push for another new signing as £16.9m update emerges - report

Marseille have been shaken by the pressure Everton are exerting on them in an attempt to sign Iliman Ndiaye this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The French outlet reported via their website on 21 June that with the Toffees pushing for the third successive transfer window to sign the former Sheffield United forward they are facing the greatest chances of success yet.

Ndiaye’s camp are open to the idea since the Marseille hierarchy is looking for liquidity and therefore could sell, but having spent €20million [£16.9m] to sign him a year ago they are expected to want to make their money back.

Everton also bid for in the 24-year-old in January 2023 prior to Sean Dyche replacing Frank Lampard [L’Equipe], and could now finally get their man.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin linked with Everton exit

The Toffees clearly aren’t hanging around in the transfer window despite uncertainty over their financial position and the developing takeover situation.

Deals have been struck to bring Jack Harrison back on loan from Leeds United [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] as well as a permanent move for Aston Villa’s Tim Iroegbunam, while Lewis Dobbin heads in the opposite direction [Romano, 21 June].

The latter two transactions may have been enough to ease potential profit and sustainability issues at both clubs, but the apparent push at Goodison Park to sign another new striker is surely an happening with an eye on losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sean Dyche’s number one striker has a year left on his deal as things stand and is wanted by the likes of Newcastle [Telegraph, 23 May], West Ham and Brentford [Football Transfers, 21 June].

Calvert-Lewin has a year left on his Everton contract and is wanted within the Premier League.

Everton now appear to be making inroads towards potential moves for Ndiaye and Chelsea’s Armando Broja, but a significant departure would likely be necessary to fund either deal [Sky Sports, 11 June].

That may end up being midfielder Amadou Onana, although it looks less likely to be Jarrad Branthwaite after the club stood firm against Manchester United.

But with Calvert-Lewin, Beto and youngster already in the squad at striker it seems likely the focus on signing another relates to losing one of the incumbents.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin’s takeover faces a potentially major barrier as legal issues that are not yet in the public domain emerge.
