Everton more advanced in approach to sign Newcastle attacker - report

Everton are moving forward in discussions to sign Gambian attacker Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Sports journalist posted (22 June) an update that the Toffees and Marseille are “further along” than Serie A side Roma in their attempts to complete a transfer for the 19-year-old.

Valued at over £25million, Minteh spent last season on loan at Feyenoord and impressed with 11 goals and six assists in 37 appearances, alerting several clubs in the race for his signature.

If the Toffees beat Roma to the signing of Minteh, Dan Friedkin, who owns the Giallorossi and is on the brink of completing a takeover at Goodison Park, will, in a round-a-bout way, get his man [Sky Sports, 21 June].

Yankuba Minteh transfer would give Everton diversity in attack

With the Toffees reportedly in a good position to complete the signing of Minteh this summer, Sean Dyche could soon – for the first time in his reign – have a plethora of attacking options at his disposal.

Although current strikers like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have been linked with moves away, Dyche will be keen to keep the duo whilst also adding the x-factor and pace of Minteh to his arsenal [Sabah, 17 June].

Interestingly, Minteh’s parent club Newcastle are one of the sides reportedly interested in signing Calvert-Lewin, opening up the possibility of the two attackers exchanging colours next season [Paul Brown].

While Dyche will be loathe to lose his number nine, Calvert-Lewin having just 12 months left on his current contract could potentially see him used as a makeweight to bring down the fee for Minteh [TEAMtalk].

Friedkin’s impending buyout at Goodison looks likely to assuage the financial restrictions which have hamstrung the club in recent seasons, and winning the race for Minteh this summer would be a massive showcase of newfound strength.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have now issued contact with their Premier League rivals to sign a midfielder who recently won the Champions League.
