Since the start of the summer transfer window, it’s been known that plenty of change was going to be afoot at Everton.

Not only with a potential takeover on the cards but also in terms of their playing squad.

The Toffees have already made the signings of two players by bringing Jack Harrison back on another season-long loan from Leeds United [Fabrizio Romano, 21 June] as well as adding Aston Villa prospect Tim Iroegbunam to their ranks.

In addition to these incomings, a couple of the Toffees’ players have been touted with moves away from the club over the course of the transfer window.

Chief among those is Jarrad Branthwaite. The defender had a strong debut season for Everton throughout 2023/24 and was among the team’s best players.

Manchester United have been most strongly linked with Branthwaite, though a shambolic first offer was rightly rejected and it appears there will need to be compromise reached for another bid to be put forward.

With this in mind, however, should Sean Dyche lose his star defender during the transfer window, they will need to find a replacement as soon as possible and they might already have the answer in the form of a Red Devils defender.

Why Victor Lindelof would be an ideal addition to the Everton squad

Enter, Victor Lindelof. Recently the Sweden international has been linked with a move away from the Red Devils and is “free to leave” the club [talkSPORT, 25 June].

Although Lindelof’s addition isn’t on paper an exciting replacement for Branthwaite, it’s one that makes a lot of sense.

Should Brantwhaite join United over summer, the 29-year-old will likely not have a place within the squad.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with an Everton exit.

In fact, a player-plus-cash deal could even be explored, as many other clubs have done over the summer.

In turn, this would drop Everton’s asking price for their star defender and allow the Merseyside club to fill the void he’d leave instantaneously.

This will certainly be one to watch over the summer.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged in the Toffees’ pursuit of Armando Broja.
