Everton losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin this transfer window would represent a “huge blow”, Alan Pardew has said.

The Toffees striker has been linked with a summer exit at Goodison Park as Everton ponder sales to alleviate fresh concerns over Profit and Sustainability rules.

England striker Calvert-Lewin, who is said to be drawing interest from Newcastle United [Luke Edwards, 24 June] and West Ham, is about the enter the final 12 months of his deal but Pardew – speaking on talkSPORT (26 June) – thinks it would be a tough one for Everton if he were to leave.

“First and foremost, when he’s fit he’s as good as anybody in the Premier League,” said Pardew.

“Aerially, anything in the box, he’s got a leap that’s just un-defendable at times.

“So I think he’s a great take for Newcastle if they get him but [it] would be a massive blow for Everton and Sean Dyche who have got their own issues with FFP and the ownership.

“He [Sean Dyche] won’t want him to go.”

Why Everton should do everything they can to keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer

Calvert-Lewin was much more regularly involved for Everton last season after a couple of injury-hit campaigns but managed only seven Premier League goals in 32 outings.

The 27-year-old’s form was a concern at times but there is no doubt that the Toffees are just a better side when he plays due to his aerial threat and ability to link play.

Moreover, while a fee in the region of £40million might seem like good business on paper for a player in the last year of their contract, replacing him will not come cheap.

Everton

Beto struggled to prove he can meet the demands of the Premier League in his debut campaign and has been linked with a Goodison Park himself, so it would be a tough call for the Toffees to make.

Of course, it is a decision they might have to make given fears over meeting Profit and Sustainability regulations, though with Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana linked with summer exits [Sky Germany, 25 June], there does not feel a massive pressure to cash in on Calvert-Lewin.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are set to battle a European giant for the transfer of Armando Broja this summer.
