Journo: Everton seem ready to take hit to sell star player

Everton could be ready to accept a lower transfer fee for midfielder Amadou Onana, who’s currently playing at Euro 2024 with Belgium, according to Chris Beesley.

The Liverpool Echo journalist has reported that Onana has drawn interest from top clubs like Bayern Munich and Arsenal, with a potential £50million deal in the works.

This move could help Everton meet financial targets and reshape the squad ahead of their final season at Goodison Park.

Beesley wrote: “Everton seem prepared to take a hit on Onana’s fee as his exit is by far the most palatable of all their big names and in generating the cash that they could get, they can hopefully retain other prize assets.”

£50million transfer on cards for Onana

Selling Onana for £50million feels like Everton might be getting shortchanged. Despite the need to balance their books, Onana’s potential and talent suggest he’s worth far more.

During his two years at Everton, the midfielder has shown flashes of brilliance that have caught the attention of top clubs like Bayern Munich and Arsenal and at just 22, he possesses attributes that could see him become a world-class midfielder.

The idea of letting him go for £50million feels like a steal for any buying club. Onana’s ability to command possession, drive the team forward, and his physical presence on the field make him a standout player.

However, Everton’s financial situation is pressing, and they need to sell to comply with spending regulations.

The club seems prepared to take a hit on the 22-year-old’s fee because his exit is the most viable among their top players.

This sale could help Everton retain other key assets or at least demand better offers for them.

Yet, the £50million price tag still feels undervalued considering Onana’s potential to develop into one of the best midfielders in Europe.
