Dan Bardell predicts Everton to still face PSR issue despite latest ownership update

Dan Bardell believes that new owners won’t solve PSR issues at Everton although fans should remain positive about moving on from Farhad Moshiri.

It looks like the Toffees have finally found new owners with The Athletic reporting (7 June) that a deal appears to be moving forward.

The “new group” are set to enter “exclusive negotiations” with Moshiri with a view to taking over at Goodison Park this summer.

There is hope that this can help ease the financial concerns that have plagued Everton over recent years but Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell isn’t so sure it will.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “The trouble that Everton have got is that I don’t think even if they get new owners it won’t dramatically shift the landscape in terms of PSR. It is still great for them to get new owners.

“For Moshiri the intent has always been quite good but the actual way that they’ve actioned things hasn’t worked. He’s put money in, in fairness but he’s just made poor decisions with that money.

“Even with new owners they’re still probably going to need a big sale but they just need some clarity. The fans need to know what’s going on at the club.

“It feels like Everton have been in limbo for so long and for a club that size, it shouldn’t be happening.“

Everton move closer to new ownership

Finally, it looks like Moshiri has found new owners for the Toffees after years of trying to find the right person or group to take charge.

The British-Iranian businessman looked to have all but confirmed a deal with 777 Partners before that fell through at the final hurdle.

The initial news of the deal frustrated fans given the group’s chequered past and after it was cancelled there was a sense of relief.

Moshiri now appears to have found a new option to take over at Goodison although they are currently unnamed and faceless.

Should this go through, fans can celebrate in the hope that the financial issues that have plagued their club will be dealt with.

Profit and sustainability rules in the Premier League won’t just go away but the positives are still there to take away while looking to the future.

A positive time for Everton which allows them to have some hope ahead of the new Premier League season.
