Dan Bardell sends Tottenham message as new transfer bid launched

Dan Bardell has urged Tottenham to walk away from a deal to sign Jacob Ramsey after Aston Villa rejected an opening bid.

The Times has reported (26 June) that the Villans have turned down a deal worth £20million plus Giovani Lo Celso for the Englishman.

Villa are said to want up to £50m for Ramsey who still has three years remaining on his contract so are under no pressure to sell.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that the 23-year-old could be a good signing but can’t see an offer being accepted.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Ramsey is a brilliant footballer who would fit into most Premier League teams.

“It is hard to say who he would displace at Tottenham, I don’t know if he’d play as one of the wide midfielders and Maddison is there as the central player.

“It smacks of Tottenham chancing their arm with £20m plus Lo Celso for him. Villa didn’t welcome the bid at all.

“I can see why Tottenham would want him but I don’t see a world where Villa sell him to a direct rival for Champions League qualification.

“It is probably a deal that they are best walking away from because I don’t think they’ll get anywhere with it.“

Tottenham interested in Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa

Last season was positive for the most part despite missing out on Champions League qualification to Villa in the end.

Now Ange Postecoglou is keen to add to his squad this summer to make sure that his side is improved for the upcoming campaign.

Ramsey is a player who spent the majority of last season injured and didn’t show his best form despite Unai Emery’s side finishing fourth.

He picked up an injury while on England Under 21s duty over the summer which hampered him throughout the campaign.

There is no doubt that he is still a useful Premier League player and would be a positive addition to the Tottenham squad.

A deal for £20m plus Lo Celso was instantly rejected despite the midfielder having worked with the Villa manager in the past.

It appears unlikely that the Villans will accept an offer for Ramsey this summer as they prepare for Champions League football next year.
