Dan Bardell: Tottenham could offer two players to sign Leeds star

Dan Bardell has suggested Tottenham Hotspur could offer Oliver Skipp and Joe Rodon to Leeds United in a deal to sign Archie Gray this summer.

The Athletic has reported (14 June) that Spurs are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old Leeds star but are yet to enter talks to sign him.

Ange Postecoglou could now reportedly offer Skipp [TEAMtalk, 14 June] in a swap deal, while former Spurs defender Alan Hutton suggested that Rodon – who spent last season on loan at Leeds – might be another who could be offered up in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News.

Now Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested both are surplus to requirements at Tottenham and could be used to try and bring Gray to the club.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “It’s a deal that would make sense. I think we’re going to see these sorts of untraditional swaps this window with clubs looking to manipulate the market.

“Archie Gray feels like a player that would suit Tottenham and suit Ange Postecoglou. That would leave Skipp surplus to requirements, he’s not first choice anyway and Gray coming in would put him further down the pecking order.

“He’s a player that needs a fresh start. Obviously, Rodon was there last season and they would take him back. If they helped get Tottenham closer to a move for Archie Gray then that would be a superb piece of business.“

Last season was a true breakout season for the teenager, who played a key role as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion.

Gray’s versatility was a particular plus for Leeds, with the now 18-year-old excelling at both centre-midfield and right-back.

Being a Leeds fan, he has certainly captured the imagination of the Elland Road faithful so it could prove tough for Spurs to sign him this summer.

There have been suggestions Leeds might need to sell some of their talents this summer to comply with financial rules but even still convincing them to part ways with Gray will be no easy feat.

But Postecoglou doesn’t seem to fancy Rodon or Skipp and, as a result, it may make sense to let them go this summer and it might be they could try and convince Leeds that those two players in exchange for Gray would make the sum of their parts stronger.

Gray is going to be a top player and signing him while they can for a cut-price deal could be a superb piece of business to open the window.
