Chris Rigg has been in the spotlight at Sunderland for his exceptional Championship performances at just 17 years of age – and Tottenham need to entertain the prospect of signing him.
Spurs would face a significant amount of competition in the race to sign Rigg with several clubs chasing his signature but if they could pull it off, it would be a huge statement of intent from Levy.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with a move for the talented teen although Crystal Palace are the latest to have joined the race (The Sun).
Chris Rigg would be a sensational signing for Tottenham
Premier League clubs very seldom dip into the Championship market when acquiring players but doing so can see them reap massive rewards for slightly deflated fees. If Rigg was a Premier League player, his price tag would be entering nine-figure territory.
At just 17, Rigg has already established himself as a first-team regular at Sunderland and hasn’t once looked out of place.
Questions are often asked when big clubs sign young players when they seemingly aren’t ready to have an impact although Rigg certainly could.
Mikey Moore has been a prime example for Spurs this season, 17 years old and having an impact in the first team because he has the ability. The same would be said for Rigg who excels in various aspects of the game.
Very few players at his age can showcase the eye for a pass that he consistently does and the ability to score goals from midfield is something that Spurs would greatly benefit from.
With James Maddison perhaps seen as the main creator at the club, Rigg would provide not only depth in that area but serious competition.
Rigg will go on to play for England and with a reported asking price of £25-30 million (Caught Offside), Spurs would be silly not to make enquiries.
In other Tottenham news, the club have told Son Heung-min’s team that they have no plans to open talks over a new deal with the winger.
