Tottenham will likely be in talks over a new deal for Son Heung-min after reports of the club triggering a one-year extension, Paul Robinson has said.

Spurs are set to trigger a clause in the South Korean’s current deal, according to The Telegraph [4 November], with his current deal expiring at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

With only seven months left on the forward’s contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Robinson believes that Spurs will not just settle for an extra year and will be aiming for at least another two years.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they were in talks to extend his contract further. The relationship he’s got with the fans and how he’s thought of at the club, I suspect he’ll stay as long as he wants to.

“Without a recognised No.9 last season, he really carried the mantle until Dominic Solanke came in this summer. It’s kind of accepted that, while he only has seven months left on his deal, we’re not talking about it constantly.

“I would be surprised if it was only going to be a year. The fact that we’re not hearing anything, I think the year’s extension is already a given and it is quiet because it could be more. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was two or three years.”

Tottenham to reach new contract agreement with Son Heung-min?

Son has been an instrumental figure for every manager at Hotspur Lane, most of all under Ange Postecoglou, who had to deal with the departure of Harry Kane last summer.

The 32-year-old has notched 165 goals and 87 assists during his nine years in North London so far, and despite his age, he has shown no signs of slowing down in the final third.

He recorded 17 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League last term and already has six goal contributions in seven league games to his name this season.

Extending the star’s contract should be one of the main priorities for Daniel Levy before the 2024/25 campaign comes to a close.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are leading the race to sign St Patrick’s Athletic sensation Mason Melia.
