Darren Bent is adamant Everton are more threatening with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the team and that he will help them to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The 27-year-old has hit the ground running this season after only netting seven league goals last term, though that has not been enough to earn the Toffees a route out of the Premier League relegation zone.
Sean Dyche, who is facing a mountain of pressure, has been unable to lead his side to victory yet, sitting just one spot above rock-bottom with one point from their opening five league matches.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (26 September, 4:39pm), Bent said: “Everton are more of a threat with him [Calvert-Lewin] up front – that’s just fact.
“Even though his numbers have not been great for a while, and he’s never been that prolific, he just gives them a different dimension. They can go directly to him, he can hold the ball up, and he’s quicker than a lot of people think.
“He’s done okay. They’re going to need him. If he can stay fit, Everton will be fine. Yes, they need to pick up points and stop wasting two-goal leads, but the team look more potent with him in the team.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to lead Everton to Premier League safety?
The Toffees struggled for goals last season, and it was only the impeccable defensive record that saw them stay clear of the dropzone, eventually finishing 14 points clear.
It is the complete reverse this season. Calvert-Lewin has already hit the back of the net twice and should have scored more against Aston Villa, but the backline is falling apart.
Dyche could only watch on as his side threw away two-goal leads to both Bournemouth and Aston Villa, only just managing to secure a point against Leicester City in their most recent league clash.
The manager will be keen to put points on the board, and even attempt to save his job, as potential new owner Dan Friedkin looks set to replace him if the current form continues at Goodison Park [Corriere dello Sport].
With 70 goals in 252 appearances for the Toffees since joining in 2016, Calvert-Lewin certainly has the potential to lead Everton up the table, and it looks as though his injury issues are behind him for now.
In other Everton news, a journalist has shared what Dan Friedkin must do if both the Toffees and Roma qualify for the same European competition.
