David de Gea has been in the wilderness for over a year, but he will soon make his return to football. Over the last couple of weeks, he’s been in discussions with Fiorentina, and it now appears that he will be playing for the Serie A side.
Matteo Moretto has reported that an agreement has been reached between de Gea and Fiorentina. The 33-year-old goalkeeper, previously of Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, will sign a one-year contract, with the option of an additional 12 months. He will travel to Florence on Friday to undergo medical examinations.

De Gea will be on a significantly lower wage to the one that he earned at Man United, although he will surely just be happy to be back playing football in a professional capacity once again. He could even make a return to the Spanish national team setup if he impresses for Fiorentina – current no.1 Unai Simon is out until December, so there is an opportunity for him.
