David Edgar shares what John Gilligan said about Dave King at Rangers today

John Gilligan has confirmed that former chairman Dave King has not spoken to anyone on the Rangers board, David Edgar has shared.

The Heart & Hand founder posted on X live from Gilligan’s first press conference at Ibrox (23 September), after he stepped in as interim chairman following John Bennett’s resignation.

King, who remains the Gers’ largest current shareholder, has publicly declared his interest in returning to the Ibrox boardroom but has not had much traction internally at the club.

Edgar shared what Gilligan said, writing: “It’s unrealistic.

“Says Dave King has not spoken to anyone on the board.”

Bennett’s resignation represents the latest in a series of chaotic off-field developments at Ibrox, with a whole host of vacancies still to be filled after months of uncertainty over the summer.

Gilligan has already made clear that his priority as interim chairman is to hire a new CEO to fill the void left long ago by James Bisgrove [Chris Jack, 17 September], and King’s very public comments won’t have helped to steady the ship.

King himself declared the situation as a “crisis” on national radio [talkSPORT, 16 September], suggesting that there are no holds barred when it comes to drumming up his interest in taking up the mantle.

Appointing an academy director is also high on the to-do list after the Gers made their long-awaited return to Ibrox on 21 September, with Gilligan likely to brush off King’s comments for the time being.

A new chairman, and potentially even all-new ownership, will come in time, but the signs at present don’t point towards King making a return to the increasingly small boardroom at Ibrox.
