David Pleat takes swipe at Tottenham after Daniel Levy message

David Pleat has aimed a dig at Daniel Levy’s lack of silverware at Tottenham after he was dismissed earlier this year.

The former Spurs manager and consultant played a key role in bringing the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Dele Alli, and Ben Davies to North London. However, he was told by the chairman at the end of last season that he was no longer needed.

Pleat, 79, had four spells as Spurs’ manager before taking a role in bringing in players, and while he was quick to praise Levy in an interview with The Telegraph (10 September), he’s also teased his former boss at the same time.

He said: “Daniel Levy called me in and said, ‘you know it’s all data driven now, we don’t need eyes and ears’. What a nonsense. I didn’t argue. He’s in charge.

“Actually, I have huge respect for him. The legacy of the new stadium and training ground will always be there. That is all down to him and his drive.

“Although they’ve won nothing for years.”

Pleat should be praised for the work he’s done

Football is an ever-changing game, and Levy usually makes decisions that benefit the football club, which is why he relieved Pleat from his scouting duties.

That being said, his time at the club saw three iconic Spurs players put on the white shirt, which often is rewarded by chairman up and down the country, but Levy is not quite known for his generosity.

Pleat told The Telegraph that he has to apply for tickets to see Spurs, whereas Pleat claims “‘Bob Wilson was given an Arsenal seat for life”, showing he feels underappreciated for his efforts during his time at the club.

By bringing in Davies, Dele, and Vertonghen, the former scout has brought many memories to North London, and shouldn’t be cast aside by Levy like he has.

Although the Lilywhites chairman is as brutal as they come, which is why he has taken Tottenham to new heights in his 23-year tenure.
