Bryan King expects Tottenham to keep hold of Ben Davies despite interest in the player from Galatasaray.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the 31-year-old is a useful player to have behind the scenes in North London.

According to Turkish news outlet Takvim (9 September), Galatasaray are eyeing a last-minute move for Davies ahead of the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday (13 September).

But King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – can’t see a transfer happening anytime soon.

“I would have thought Spurs would want to keep hold of Davies due to his experience,” King said.

“That experience is useful with a squad of young players, such as Destiny Udogie in that left-back position. Davies is a full international who has been around the football club for quite some time.

“The only thing I could see coming out of this is that this would probably be the last move for Davies where he could secure himself guaranteed first-team football and a big money deal.

“However, he has proven to be a good utility player for the club, he has come in at centre-back as well as left-back. Spurs will have plenty of games this season. Therefore, I would have thought the January transfer window would be the time to let go of players, not now.”

Ange Postecoglou to keep hold of Tottenham left-back Ben Davies?

This would be a strange time for Tottenham to allow Davies to leave the club.

Whether or not the Welshman would be interested in a move to Turkey is not clear. However, from Spurs’ point of view, a transfer makes little sense.

With the UEFA Europa League to come this season, Ange Postecoglou will need a deep squad.

Therefore, letting a key squad player go when they aren’t able to replace him would be harmful to Tottenham, and the fee is unlikely to be worth the hit on the team.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou should keep a close eye on one player on loan from the club after an “incredible” admission.
